New Orleans

New Orleans

We wanted to visit New Orleans, but didn’t really want to stay right in the city. So we ended up staying at Fountainbleu State Park across the lake.  We drove into New Orleans and walked around the French Quarter.  We got beignets from Cafe du Monde, and stopped in for supper at a little place with a live jazz band playing.  I ordered gumbo (which was delicious but way too spicy for me) and Eric got a crawfish Po-Boy.  The band that was playing was amazing and Eric bought a cd that they were selling.  Eric actually said that sitting in that restaurant listening to the live jazz band playing was his favourite experience of this trip so far!   The kiddos, on the other hand thought it was a tad bit too loud for their liking.

One of the days that we were here I really wanted to go see a plantation.  So we drove out to Oak Alley Plantation and did a tour there.  The house and grounds were so beautiful and it was really neat to get a guided tour and hear all about the history of the plantation.

We went back into New Orleans after our day at Oak Alley for some more dinner and live jazz.  The music wasn’t as good as our first night, but the food was delicious.  Eric wanted to walk around the French quarter after dinner for a little bit, but by that time it was dark…and a little bit scary with kids. So we headed back to the trailer.
